It is important to keep an accurate, up-to-date database of influential media. Any information sent to a publication needs to be addressed to a specific journalist or editor, otherwise it will likely be discarded. Public relations is based on relationship building with the media, so it is important not only to keep accurate records, but to actually get to know the key journalists and media that cover your company or industry.
