New PR website puts focus on job-finding
About.com

The Internet is cluttered with thousands of job, career and employment sites. Not to mention others run by headhunters and executive recruiters. Newly-launched workinpr.com promises to deliver just what PR job seekers need -- and more.

Renee Dunn, President of Futureworkplace, Inc. of Seattle, WA created and launched workinpr.com. "We developed workinpr.com as a new online community and jobsite customized for the PR industry, offering employers and candidates an extremely customized search experience," Dunn says.

The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and Council of Public Relations Firms have co-developed and endorsed workinpr.com as part of the solution to a tremendous shortage of PR talent across the nation. The US Department of Labor expects PR jobs to increase faster than average for ALL other occupations through 2006. Students are you listening?

"Our biggest competitors are sites like Monster.com and HotJobs which have a high-volume, low quality approach," Dunn states. "Workinpr offers candidates and employers a more cost-effective, specific, results-oriented solutions. And, we complement that with up-to-date industry information and industry depth and resources the broad sites can't match."

At workinpr.com are some excellent tools, specifically designed for the PR job seeker. Try "Job Search" and you'll get dozens of specific openings by category including title, industry, area of expertise, location and income. The "Manage Resume" function allows online resume building and free posting by candidates for review by potential employers. "Personal Recruiter" lets you sign up for e-mail alerts when a new PR opening is posted that matches your criteria. For potential employers, workinpr.com's resume searches are available for a reasonable fee and postings of job openings are modestly priced as well.

Since the launch in mid-July 2000, 12 of the 15 global PR agencies are using the new website and 22 of the top 50 agencies are recruiting on workinpr.com. Listings are now appearing from Fortune 500 companies across the US and the PR job market looks like it'll continue to be hot.

The West Coast PR Newsletter remains one of the established places to look for and advertise PR jobs on the west coast. With a circulation of more than 1,000, it has a loyal readership and a website where candidates can view some openings for free.

"The shortage of talent is still happening in California despite the waning of dot-com mania," Publisher and Editor Darren Shuster says. "I've seen no visible change in the average number of our job postings, the number of press releases we receive each month or the number of calls from HR people."

Shuster says the shortage of qualified PR pros goes from entry level to senior-level positions. A recent roundup of quotes by agency principals in California backs him up.

The big question is, if you're looking for a job in PR, with these and other resources what are you waiting for?
